November 26, 2015

Cliteratti Club editor Karen Conrad was thrilled to attend a special media only preview for the largest international contemporary art exhibition in the history of the NGV (National Gallery Victoria) – the upcoming Andy Warhol/Ai Weiwei exhibition.
She was treated to a sneak peek at the big and bold pasting up of Warhol’s dazzling Cow Wallpaper on 7 metre high walls at the gallery.
Warhol’s Cow Wallpaper was produced by the artist in 1966 and was the first of his designs to reveal his fascination with serial production and repetition of found pop-cultural imagery.
Today marks the beginning of the installation of the largest Andy Warhol exhibition to come to Victoria.   In all, close to 2 kilometres of wallpaper will be used including five wallpapers especially designed by Ai Weiwei and four  designed by Andy Warhol.
Over 80 crates and many shipping containers carrying over 300 works are being unpacked now for the spectacular show, which runs from 11 December–24 April.
Curators revealed that the exhibition will include iconic works image005from Andy Warhol such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and Liz Taylor screen print portraits, 500 personal Polaroids from the artist and of course, Warhol’s famous Campbell’s Soup Cans.
Over 1800 bicycles from Ai Weiwei’s Forever Bicycles series will also arrive, as well as thousands of handmade porcelain flowers, and hundreds of crystal prism lights from Weiwei’s new Chandelier series.
